Drop Your Pants! (For a Good Cause)

Did you know 500 pairs of jeans can insulate a home? JMU’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) in partnership with Cotton Incorporated and Scout Sports and Entertainment is hosting a Denim Drive entitled Cotton. From Blue to Green throughout October. Clean out those closets for a good cause and help us reach our goal!
Denim jeans, shorts, skirts and jackets are all acceptable, whether they are old, ripped, torn, cut up, painted, died, bedazzled, or simply too small. Anything will help bring us closer to reaching our goal!
Bin Locations:
  • ECL
  • Carrier
  • UREC

  • Friendly City Food Co-op
The Commons:
We will be handing out PRIZES on the Commons from 2 to 4 pm on October 18th, 20th, and 26th to anyone who brings us jeans. 1 pairs of jeans will get you a Frisbee, 2 pairs will get you a t-shirt, 3 or more will win you a sweatshirt!
Farmers’ Market:
We will be collecting jeans from 7 am to 1 pm on Saturday October 15th and Saturday October 22nd at the Harrisonburg Farmers’ Market.
Since 2006, college campuses across the country have participated in this drive and now it is JMU’s turn! With the help of our students, JMU PRSSA hopes to collect 500 pieces of denim. This denim is then recycled into natural UltraTouch insulation, and donated to areas in need. In past years, Cotton Incorporated has donated to Hurricane Katrina victims and partnered with Habitat for Humanity to donate insulation to disaster-ridden areas around the United States.
