Student Representative to the Board of Visitors

Name: Chris Brown

Class: 2012

Job Description: The governing body of James Madison University is the board of visitors, which by statute is responsible for overseeing the effective government of the university. As a board member you are responsible for representing the student body in the board’s decisions. In addition to serving on the full board you also serve on the Education and Student Life Committee. The position requires you to prepare quarterly reports for presentation regarding current student life. It is important to note that this position is not a part of Student Government Association, however maintaining regular communication between SGA is strongly encouraged. The position has a great deal of flexibility and influence. Successful student board members are those that are able to function well without a clear set of guidelines, work well in a professional environment, and be continually proactive in promoting the interests of the student body as a whole.

Most effective campaign tactic: My most successful campaign strategy was recruiting friends that I worked well with to help me run and maintain the campaign. I would not have been able to do it alone!
